What does your hair have to do with your identity?

Hi Reader,

Have you ever had a hair day that affected how you felt about yourself?

Maybe your style didn’t turn out the way you planned. Or you noticed more gray hair, thinner edges, or changes in your texture that you weren’t expecting.

It’s easy to give those changes more authority than they deserve.

But your identity was established long before your hair entered the picture. You are created in God’s image (see Genesis 1:27). Your value doesn't increase when your hair looks beautiful or decrease when it doesn't.

That doesn't mean caring for your hair is unimportant. It means you can care for it from a healthier starting point: gratitude for what God has entrusted to you, rather than pressure to make your appearance prove something.

Here's something to reflect on this week: What have I allowed my hair to say about me that God never said?

If you'd like to spend more time exploring that question, I wrote about identity in Christ and what it means to see yourself through God's Word.

Until next time, take care of your hair and remember who you are in Christ.
