I questioned God the whole way there

I took a long road trip, and somewhere past the halfway mark I realized I had left the bag with all of my son's medications sitting at home.

Anxiety spiked, and a little bit of terror came with it. My son takes several medicines, and the seizure meds are not ones we can miss. I will be honest with you. I questioned God about why He did not tell me I was missing them when I walked out the door.

So I drove all the way back home, three hours, then another six hours back to my destination in a storm. And somewhere in all of that, I recognized something important. God was with me. He never left, and He did meet me while I was on vacation.

In Today's Issue:

→ The forgotten bag that showed me God was with me the whole time

→ A decision I made about my natural hair that will change the content I share going forward

→ How to prioritize your time with God when traveling

→ The scripture that will keep you grounded in His presence

God Meets You Where You Are, Even on Vacation

[ALT TEXT for the devotional image]

Summer is typically the season that families like to get away and take a vacation. It's a wonderful time to relax, but one thing our plan for relaxation should not include is excluding God.

5 Reasons I'm Becoming a Straight Hair Natural

Michelle wearing her fine natural hair straightened

I'm letting you in on a change I'm making when it comes to caring for my fine natural, and now very graying, hair. In this video I share the five reasons I'm choosing to become a straight hair natural now, grays and all. There is a thread of this week's newsletter running through it too. The same God who meets you wherever you are is the One who lets you be seen just as you are, allowing your self expression, with nothing to fix.

This week's focus

When on Vacation, Don't Vacation from God

When we take a vacation, the very act seems to signal our brains to take a break from everything. The work, the workouts, the early alarms; all of it feels optional the second you are somewhere else. Your time with God can get swept into that same pile, set down without much thought until you are back at home.

But your walk with Him was never meant to be tied to a specific location. In fact, the time you spend with God can be that much more precious when you aren't in a familiar setting. Giving Him the first few minutes of your day makes it easier to enjoy your time of leisure.

"A trip changes your address, but not your access."

So wherever you wake up this week, in your own bed or a guest room far from home, keep your time with God. Bring your devotional with you. Rise before the day begins and spend time talking to the Father. Read the Word and declare God's perfect peace and protection. This is what I had to do when I arrived in DC, and what I continued to do while I was there. Challenges did arise, but in spite of them, God was with us, and we learned so much more about Him and His plans while we were away.

SACRED REFLECTIONS

"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there."

Psalm 139:7, 8

A change of address does not move you out of His reach. The same God who is with you in your private space at six in the morning is with you in a rented room many states away.

You do not have to get back home to get back to Him. He is already wherever you are.

SACRED SELF CARE

Feed Your Spirit First Thing

01 When your feet hit the floor, before the phone, before the itinerary, give God the first 30 minutes of your day. Let Him have the morning. Sit with Him in silence, meditate on a verse, and share your heart with the One who already knows what's in it. Doing so isn't for His benefit. It's for yours.
