This week's focus

Why Your Curly Styles Lose Definition in Summer

If your curly styles seem to lose definition more quickly during the summer months, heat and humidity are only part of the explanation. The way your hair responds to the products you've chosen can be just as important.

One factor many women overlook is the dew point, which measures the amount of moisture in the air. As the dew point rises, your hair may respond differently to certain ingredients.

For example, when products contain higher amounts of glycerin, your hair may absorb more moisture from the air on humid days. This can cause the strands to swell, lose definition, and become frizzier.

That's why most products won't perform the same way throughout the year. A product that gives you beautiful definition in one season may not give you the same results in another. Learning how your hair responds to different ingredients under different weather conditions can help you make wiser product choices instead of assuming a product simply doesn't work.

"A lasting style begins with thoughtful preparation and continues with consistent care."

That's just one of the lessons we explore inside the Faithful Strand Academy. More than a place to learn about natural hair care, it's a Christ-centered learning community where women grow in both knowledge and faith.

Together, we learn how to care for our hair with wisdom, navigate seasonal changes with confidence, and remember that our identity is found in Christ—not our curls.

SACRED REFLECTIONS

"The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty."

Proverbs 21:5

This verse reminds of how in life, taking short cuts sometimes leads to less than desirable results. Skipping a hair care step because, "I'm in a hurry." A curly style losing its definition by day two usually isn't a mystery. It's the prep that was rushed through the night before.

Let's learn to slow down when caring for ourselves - everything from our hair to the rest of our physical bodies.
