This month's devotional

You Are More Than Your Hair

Your hair is worth caring for. But it was never meant to be the thing that determines how you see yourself. This month's devotional is for the woman who has tied more of her identity to her hair than she meant to.

FAITHFUL STRAND TIP

Reject Comparison and Embrace Your Own Hair

It's very easy to get distracted from your own hair when another gorgeous head of voluminous hair is front and center. When you're watching someone else's wash and go and it looks nothing like yours, it's tempting to decide your hair isn't capable of that. It may not be the same, but it is capable of its own level of greatness. Use the right products and technique, and keep your eyes on what your own hair is doing. Give it the chance to show you what it's capable of. Your goal isn't to have someone else's hair. It's to understand your own.

Your Day 1 Wash and Go Is Lying to You

Your day 1 wash and go is lying to you

Fine natural hair can absolutely have volume, definition, and a wash and go that looks good. Day 1 just isn't the day it shows up. This video shows you what happens when you stop comparing your wash and go to someone else's and start learning how to be patient with your hair.

This week's focus

Your Hair Journey Has a Timeline. It Just Isn't Someone Else's.

One of the most common reasons women get frustrated with their natural hair journey is that they're using someone else's progress as the measuring stick:

  • Someone else's results after two years of learning her hair.
  • A video that doesn't reveal to you how many attempts came before that person's hair reached their goal.
  • A before and after with no context for what happened in between.

When you're looking at someone else's outcome and using it to evaluate your own, it's natural for you to feel behind. But here's the truth. You're not behind. You're simply on a different timeline.

Realistic expectations aren't about lowering the bar. They're about understanding what your specific hair journey looks like so you don't give up. This means knowing your hair's characteristics, understanding what it responds to, and having the right information when questions come up — because they will come up.

"Progress on your hair journey looks different from someone else's. That's not a problem. That's the point."

Having the right support makes a real difference in how that journey goes. This is why I've greatly overhauled The Faithful Strand Academy. It's reopening in July with some additions I'm excited about, including new group coaching calls. You'll be able to bring your specific natural hair questions and receive support as you grow in your walk with the Lord.

SACRED REFLECTIONS

"The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

1 Samuel 16:7

God doesn't measure us by our physical features. That may sound obvious to some, but it's worth saying because not everyone feels that confident. I just want you to remember that your worth is based on who God says you are. If you are in Christ, His Spirit dwells within you.

The same woman who is learning to care for her hair with intention is the same woman God sees and values before any of that work begins. Your hair journey is worth investing in. You just don't have to stake your identity on it. God is good, and that truth holds no matter what your hair looked like this morning.

Many Blessings,

Michelle
