Hi Reader,

At some point, a lot of us have tried to follow someone else's hair care regimen. Maybe it was a YouTuber with beautiful results or a friend whose hair seemed to thrive on a routine she swore by. And it made sense to try it: she had evidence. The problem is, her hair is not your hair.

This week we are getting into why that approach usually falls short and what it actually looks like to build something that works for your hair specifically.

In This Issue:

→ Why copying someone else's regimen usually backfires

→ One sign your hair is trying to tell you something isn't working

→ What building your own foundation actually looks like

FAITHFUL STRAND TIP

When Shedding is Abnormal

Losing 50 to 100 strands a day is within the normal range. When you're consistently seeing more than that, your body is usually communicating something: too much tension on the scalp, hormonal changes, stress, nutritional deficiencies, or poor sleep. These are the more common culprits behind excessive shedding. Before you change your entire regimen, pay attention to what else might be going on.

This week's focus

Her Regimen Worked for Her. That's the Whole Point.

When you copy someone else's regimen, you're not guaranteed to get her results. What you are getting is her starting point: her hair's porosity, density, texture, and what it responds to. None of that transfers over to working for your hair. What works for her is proof that building from the right foundation matters. But her foundation is not yours. You need your own.

A lot of women spend more time chasing other people's results than understanding their own hair. That's not a criticism; it's what happens when you don't have a framework to start from. You look for evidence of what works and try to repeat it. It's reasonable but it skips a step.

The step That step is Identity: knowing the ins and outs of your own hair before deciding and figuring out what it needs. Your hair's characteristics are not obstacles. They are simply information. Fine strands behave differently than coarse ones. Low porosity hair does not absorb moisture the same way normal or high porosity hair does. A regimen built without that knowledge is essentially guesswork with good packaging.

"You cannot build a regimen for hair you have not taken the time to understand."

The Identity stage inside the Academy is where a foundation us built. It's the starting point of understanding who you are and leads to the next stage of understanding your hair's specific characteristics so that what you do actually has a reason behind it: not because someone else's hair looked good doing it.

PAUSE & PONDER

"When it comes to your hair care, are you doing things that you know will work for your hair or things that worked for someone else?"

Just think about it for a moment. If your answer is the latter, it is time to begin from a more solid starting point. Hit reply and tell me where you're at. I respond to every email.

Many Blessings,

Michelle
